Session 4.1: Digital Security Strategies

Session 4.1: Digital Security Strategies

by Balqis Maesara published Oct 28, 2025

This session framed digital security as central to CSO survival, where the loss of donor lists, project files, or sensitive evidence could cripple whole campaigns. Drawing on cases of cyber-espionage, newsroom raids, and state surveillance, participants explored how risks come not only from hackers but also from accidents and insider leaks. Practical strategies like mapping “crown jewels,” classifying data, limiting exposure, and maintaining strong everyday habits were highlighted as more effective than buying tools. A crisis simulation on handling corruption evidence showed the need to balance digital safeguards with physical transfers, legal risks, and alliances with media. The core message: digital security is not a checklist but a culture of prevention and resilience, built on vigilance, “zero trust,” and protecting people as much as information.
